The Canadian Cancer Society - Breathe Hope

Every three minutes in Canada, someone hears the words, “You have cancer.” For Angus Pratt, that moment came in 2018. Since then, he’s been living and outliving the odds thanks to research and resilience.

This short film tells Angus’ story not just as a survivor, but as an advocate. He’s pushed through the stigma around lung cancer — particularly the damaging stereotype that it’s only caused by smoking — and has become a voice for change within the cancer community. His message is simple and powerful: “If you’ve got lungs, you can get lung cancer.”

I was brought in as a creative partner on this piece and had the privilege of working with a director who brought a clear, emotionally rich vision to the project. From the recurring motif of breath and air to the clarity of Angus’ voice, the storytelling here felt deeply honest and necessary.

“When the video played, the audience was hanging onto every word and were completely silent. I don’t think there were too many dry eyes (mine certainly weren’t). Altogether, this portion of the evening set an incredible tone, and I really feel it contributed to a totally record-breaking night: we raised $4.4 million for innovative cancer research!”- Georgia Hennessy Jackson, Manager, Fundraising Communications & Story Centre
