The Vancouver Chinatown Foundation - Raised by Chinatown
Chinatown isn’t just a place — it’s a living story. In this brand piece, we set out to capture the soul of a community: its legacy, its resilience, and its future. “Raised by Chinatown” celebrates the Chinatown Storytelling Centre — Canada’s first and only permanent space dedicated to preserving and sharing Chinese Canadian history. Since opening in 2021, the CSC has become more than a museum. It’s a cultural hub, a space for education, creativity, and connection. This project was made to spotlight this work, and the larger vision: to honour the past and shape what comes next through immersive exhibits, bold revitalization, and deep community care.
As producer and director, this project was personal for me. I’ve lived in Vancouver my whole life, but working with the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation opened my eyes to a part of the city I thought I knew. Their work — to celebrate culture, restore vitality, and care for some of the most vulnerable people in our city — resonated deeply. A thriving Chinatown is good for all of us.
This film was shown at the Foundation’s annual banquet and helped energize a community-wide conversation about what revitalization looks like when it’s done with integrity, beauty, and heart.
